You Can't Out Train A Bad Diet
You may have heard the saying “You can’t out train a bad diet” but what exactly does it mean? How can we learn to eat for our goals?
Whether the goal is to lose weight to help you feel your best, to gain muscle to improve sports performance, or to maintain a healthy lifestyle, nutrition plays a vital role. Our bodies function at the highest level when we fuel it with real, nutrient dense food. If we are putting 100% effort in at the gym but not paying attention to our nutrition we are less likely to reach our goals. Healthy portions of proteins, carbohydrates and fats are all needed so we can perform our best, both mentally and physically.
But how can we ensure we’re eating right? There are a lot of fad diets out there, how do we know what’s best? A great rule of thumb is to follow a 40/30/30 rule, meaning all of your meals are made up of 40% protein, 30% carbs, and 30% fats. Adding fruits and vegetables into our diet is a great way to get those recommended vitamins. We also want to make sure we aren’t consuming a high amount of sugar loaded drinks (juices, sodas, energy drinks, etc). And we want to stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water throughout the day.
By taking the effort to look at your nutrition habits and change them to match your goals, you will see a great change in your performance in the gym, on the field, and even at work or school.
